We're not a cover band, we're a band that does covers...for now.

When you think of the meaning of "cover Band" it's a musical group that performs songs originally created by other artists or bands. Cover bands typically specialize in a particular era, genre, or artists, and choose their material primarily based on the idea of "getting gigs", or to "make money". 

​

Sure, we want to get gigs and make money as well, but that's not our main focus. 2nd Sunset exists to first and foremost fuel the passion of playing music for ourselves. The most interesting part of us is every single member comes from vastly different musical backgrounds, and in a lot of cases the material we choose none of us have ever played before. We may have heard it but, have never been in a situation where we could actually have the opportunity play it until now. In most cases we approach each song as if we wrote and recorded it ourselves. 

 

​A lot of the typical variety-type cover bands in the world build their sets from material they've played in other bands, so they can get out there working as quickly as possible. Not the case with 2nd Sunset. The group you see here has taken over five years to assemble with not just warm bodies filling a slot, but with the right players that desire to fulfill a common goal of excellence and professionalism. We push ourselves to new heights and welcome the challenge of stretching ourselves as players.

​So what does this all mean for you those in attendance for a 2nd Sunset show? Will you see a group of musical scientists performing as human CD players? May that never be. Our philosophy is the only way you will be into us, is if we are into us. We are extremely passionate about the music we play and it's our prerogative to engage you, our listeners, in our sets and perform our material in an exciting way that brings you along with us! Some of our songs you will immediately recognize, others you may not, but either way they will be done so well that you won't care.

​There's this hollow idea that a "cover band" needs to play music people will easily recognize and want to hear, but we think there's more to it than that. Sure, there's some truth to that philosophy, but the fact is music done well, even if not commonly known or familiar to everyone, has a way of uniting the band with the listeners in a very unique and substantial way. 2nd Sunset is not so much about going to hear a band as it is an EXPERIENCE!

However, be assured that we can cater our show to any event's theme by capturing your vision and specific needs while still making it fun and memorable for all. ​

On any given night you have a lot of choices to hear live music, but one thing is for sure, any night with 2nd Sunset will be one you will not soon forget. People of all ages from eight to eighty have already experienced our music and the commonality is, and if only for a short while, to emotionally escape the stress and anxiety of living in our world. We not only want to touch your ears, we want to touch your soul and make a difference in YOUR life...if only for an evening.
